RE-CO BKLYN reclaims fallen New York City trees from the waste stream and uses it to produce unique live edge slabs and custom furniture. They explain that every year, tens of thousands of NYC trees are chipped and sent to landfill.

The company also states that as well as sending thousands of trees to landfill, lumber and furniture are being shipped to New York from thousands of miles away. This is why the company is using the wasted trees to produce locally sourced lumber and furniture that is rising in popularity and is sustainable.

RE-CO BKLYN has reclaimed one of NYC’s oldest fallen trees and is turning it into a unique range of live edge slab furniture. This massive European Elm was planted in Prospect Park, in roughly 1870 and has seen modern day New York grow up around it. When the Elm tree died in late 2015, the NYC Parks Department asked

RE-CO BKLYN to mill it into lumber and make furniture from it. Instead of being sent to landfill, this historic tree will carry on in the form of furniture and can tell its history in another form.

The company uses this sustainable source of wood to create their live edge slabs and are passionate about letting the trees maintain their character and tell their own stories. Their design and build team create one-of-a-kind pieces for private and commercial clients.

While the company is well known in New York, they create unique and sustainably sourced furniture that can be purchased by customers anywhere in the United States.
